Redskins, Vikings play "elimination" game
Dec. 21, 2007 By Nick Bailey
The NFC Wild Card picture will be a lot clearer after the Washington Redskins visit the Minnesota Vikings Sunday night.
The Vikings are currently holding on to the second and final Wild Card spot in the NFC, but the Redskins are right behind. The New York Giants have the other NFC Wild Card spot.
The Vikings are 6½-point favorites at BetUS, and the over/under is 40½.
The teams have met just three times in their history, with Minnesota holding a 2-1 SU and ATS edge. They last squared off on Sept. 11, 2006, when the Vikings won 19-16 in Washington.
The Redskins beat the Giants 22-10 as a 6½-point underdog last Sunday. The score was under the over/under total of 36½. Clinton Portis rushed for 126 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown for Washington, while Todd Collins completed 8-of-25 passes for 166 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in the win.
Adrian Peterson ran for two touchdowns to pace the Vikings to a 20-13 victory over the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. The Vikings failed to cover the 10½-point spread, and the 33 points were under the total of 43½.
Peterson carried the ball 20 times and finished with 78 yards rushing, and Tarvaris Jackson completed 18-of-29 passes for 249 yards passing in the win.
Current streak:
Washington (7-7 SU, 5-7-2 ATS) has won two straight games, while Minnesota (8-6 SU, 7-5-2 ATS) has won five straight.
Washington is 4-1 SU in its past five games on the road against Minnesota, and 8-3 SU in its past 11 overall against Minnesota.
