Undefeated St. Mary’s underdogs against Salukis

The surprising St. Mary's Gaels put their undefeated record on the line tonight against the Southern Illinois Salukis.
St. Mary’s is among the Top 25 College Basketball teams in the nation for the first time since the 1988-89 season, as they jumped to No. 24 in the Associated Press poll released Monday.
The Gaels moved up after beating San Diego State on Saturday at the Wooden Classic in Anaheim to improve to 7-0 SU.

Southern Illinois is 2-0 all-time against St. Mary’s. The teams last met on Dec. 23, 2006, when the Salukis won 66-61 on the road.
Among the teams St. Mary’s has beaten are Oregon and Seton Hall. Oregon was ranked No. 12 and is now No. 16 when St. Mary's won at McKeon Pavilion on Nov. 20.
With Gonzaga at No. 19, the West Coast Conference has two ranked teams for the first time since the beginning of the 1973-74 season.
Saint Mary's put up 45 points in the second half to get the 68-64 win at San Diego State. The Gaels covered the 3½-point road spread and the 133 points were under the total of 142.
Southern Illinois (3-3 SU, 2-4 ATS) has lost three straight, the latest a 75-66 setback to Charlotte on Saturday, as 4-point favorites. The score went over the total of 121½.
Saint Mary's is 4-1 SU and ATS in its past five road games. Southern Illinois is 23-2 SU in its past 25 games at home.
The total has gone under in five of Saint Mary's past seven road games, and under in five of Southern Illinois's past five home games.
