Saints lose Reggie Bush to knee injury
Dec. 10, 2007 By Rob Gerein
The New Orleans Saints will try to salvage what has been a disappointing season when they visit the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football.
But they’ll have to do it without RB Reggie Bush, who will not play against the Falcons tonight because of a left knee injury.
Bet this game at betED.com, which has the Saints as 4-point favorites and the over/under is 43½.
A win tonight would keep the Saints (5-7 SU, 4-8 ATS) in the Wild Card race for the sixth and final playoff spot in the NFC.
New Orleans had been considered a possible Super Bowl contender and a preseason favorite to win the NFC South this season, but the Saints have struggled since Week 1.
Last Sunday, the Saints lost 27-23 at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, blowing a 23-20 lead. An ill-advised trick-play pitch from Bush to wide receiver Devery Henderson was dropped and subsequently picked up by Buccaneers defensive end Jovan Haye to set up the winning TD for Tampa Bay.
The Falcons (3-9 SU, 6-6 ATS) have lost three in a row, the latest a 28-16 setback to the St. Louis Rams last week. Before this recent skid, the Falcons had won two straight.
Atlanta leads the all-time regular season series with New Orleans, 43-33, but has lost three straight against the Saints including a 22-16 road loss in Week 7. New Orleans swept last year's home-and-home, including a 31-13 victory at the Georgia Dome. The Falcons won both meetings in 2005.
In addition to the regular season series, the teams have faced off once in the postseason, with Atlanta winning a 27-20 road affair in a 1991 NFC First-Round Playoff.
New Orleans is 4-8 SU in its past 12 games on the road against Atlanta.
The total has gone over in four of New Orleans's past six games, but has gone under in four of New Orleans's past six on the road against Atlanta. The total has gone under in 15 of Atlanta's last 21 games.
