Louisville, Pitt clash in Big East quarterfinal

Mar 13, 2008 / By Rob Gerein

The No. 13 Louisville Cardinals face the Pittsburgh Panthers in quarterfinal action tonight at the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

The Cardinals are a 5-point favorite at Sportsbook.com and the over/under total is 129.

The Panthers are 3-2 SU and ATS over the past five meetings. The teams last squared off on Feb. 24, when Louisville edged Pittsburgh 75-73 as a 1-point road favorite. The score went over the total of 131.

Pittsburgh (23-9 SU, 10-8 Big East) beat Cincinnati 70-64 in the opening round of the Big East Tourney on Wednesday. Pittsburgh failed to cover the 8½-point spread and the score was over the total of 129. Sam Young led Pittsburgh with 21 points, and Keith Benjamin added 15 in the win.

The seventh-seeded Panthers, who have advanced to six of the last seven Big East title games and are 16-6 in the tournament since 2001, will likely earn a berth in the NCAA Tournament no matter how it does in the Big East Tourney.

Louisville (24-7 SU, 14-4 Big East), the second seed in the Big East Tournament, was defeated 55-52 by the No. 9 Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, as 3½-point road underdogs. The score was under the total of 126½.

Terrence Williams had 14 points for Louisville, and David Padgett shot 5-for-7 from the field with 12 points in the loss.

The total has gone OVER in all five of Pittsburgh's past five games. Pittsburgh is 4-1 SU in its past five games, but 2-6 ATS in its last eight.

Louisville is 9-1 SU and ATS in its past 10 games.

The game starts at 7 pm ET and can be seen on ESPN.
